Today, less than a quarter of young teens receiving Confirmation in U.S. return to the church once they move on to high school. For those teens, “the church just doesn’t seem relevant.”

So, I asked our 7th and 8th grade Confirmation students what would make religious education and/or the Church more relevant to them. I was told, “more interaction” and “we want to be heard.”

So, I asked the Confirmands to research, write and record social justice-themed podcasts as one of their Confirmation preparation homework assignments.

We secured our own Internet radio channel called ‘Teen Social Justice iRadio’ and, after editing and adding music and special effects, we uploaded each child’s podcast.

Teen Social Justice iRadio was broadcast in the real and virtual worlds.
